ROB AND LAURA BIRCH have been involved in various aspects of tourism their entire married life, having established Stormsriver Adventures in the Tsitsikamma area back in 95' and when the Royal Karoo operation became a reality a new challenge was embraced and the potential presented by this unique corner of the Southern Karoo is currently being developed.

As parents to two dynamic young adults, they have developed a lodge that carries their family values and is warm and hospitable. Where clients arrive as guests and leave as close friends.

WOW, an unforgettable experience! Rob & Laura went out of their way to make this a memorable trip for each one of us. This was my son’s first time hunting in Africa and he will never forget this. Our family absolutely loved every moment of our time at Royal Karoo! The food was amazing, the pool perfect on those hot African days and nights, the staff so friendly and helpful, the accommodation fantastic, not to mention the GIRAFFE WALK... truly an unforgettable African experience.

We stayed at The Royal Karoo for the first time this weekend for 3 nights and were blown away by this breathtaking oasis in the Karoo. Having been on a few hunting trips with my husband, I can definitely recommend The Royal Karoo to couples who want to experience some luxury combined with hunting, birding or just spending time in the veld. The food was outstandingly cooked by the in-house chef and we felt spoilt by all the staff from the minute we arrived, until we left. Thank you Royal Karoo for a memorable trip. What a great experience! My husband had so much fun hunting! The hunts were well organized and exhilarating! I even tagged along a few days to enjoy the beautiful topography and join in on the excitement. The lodge is beautiful and you truly feel at home during your stay. Words can't describe Royal Karoo with Robert and Laura Birch and their son Andrew. The food was exquisite, from the appetizers to the springbuck ribs cooked slowly on the fire. The rooms and accommodations were immaculate the staff and cooks were attentive to all our needs. The hunting was outstanding with every kind of plains game you could want and the cape buffalo were impressive. I would definitely go back.
